Obtaining an Smart Tag

1. What is Smart Tag?

Smart Tag is an electronic device about the size of a computer mouse, which is attached to the windscreen of your car. As a vehicle that is fitted with an Smart Tag approaches the toll plaza and selects one of the specially market Smart Tag lanes, the Smart Tag is read by an antenna in the plaza roof and the boom opens automatically.

The driver only needs to slow down and does not have stop, look for cash or open the vehicle windows o pass a credit card to the toll collector. Traffic volumes permitting, the Smart Tag offers a non stop passage through all toll plazas along the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway.

How do I get Smart Tag?

In order to obtain Smart Tag you need to:

Step 1
Fill in Smart Tag application form. These forms are available from our POS offices at the following locations:
• KM 24 Plaza
• KM 42 Plaza
• IGI Plaza

Step 2
When you submit the Smart Tag application, please specify the plan which you want to have and the plaza which you want to use. Once your Smart Tag application has been approved and the Smart Tag is ready for collection.

Step 3
Your Smart Tag should be ready within48 working days and full be active for transactions. We recommend you to always keep your Smart Tag number handy in your vehicle.

2. If I have a large fleet, do I have to fill in a form per vehicle?

You do not have to have to fill in one application form per vehicle. On request Delhi Gurgaon Expressway Provides a special Excel spreadsheet on which you can enter all details regarding the individuals vehicles- the application form will only have to be completed once.

3. How do recognise the Smart Tag lanes?

The Smart Tag user must select a lane with the orange Smart Tag signboard. These lanes are fully automatic Smart Tag lanes usually near to centre medium of the expressway. Only vehicle fitted with Smart Tag can cross these lanes.

4. How do I install the Smart Tag?

The Smart Tag must be attached on the inside of the windshield behind your vehicle s rear-view mirror. Your Smart Tag will be supplied with an easy to fix double –side sticker, no tools are required.

It happens that as modern technology develops not all of its compatible. Certain cars have windscreens incorporated a vanadium screen for protection against the sun rays. This will affect Smart Tag performance.

The most common problem with Smart Tag not functioning properly is incorrect installation. Handled Smart Tag will not work reliably and will inconvenience other Smart Tag user.

5. Can I share the Smart Tag between cars?

Sharing one tag between various vehicles is not recommended due to the high fraud risk associated with such use.

6. How do I use my Smart Tag?

As you are approaches the toll plaza, select the one of the specially marked e tag lane. The Smart Tag will be read by an antenna in the plaza roof and the boom will open automatically.
You only need to slow down and do not have to stop, look for cash or open the vehicle windows to pass accredit card to the toll collector.

7. What does the orange light in the “Smart Tag only ‘ – lane mean?

If the traffic light in an “Smart Tag only “ lane (fully Dynamic lane ) show an orange light , it means that the lane is open and fully operational ( proceed with caution ) we prefer to use the orange light rather than green marking to ensure that non Smart Tag users do not select this lane.

8. What is the speed limit in Smart Tag lane?

We request drivers to please adhere to the 10 km/h speed limit going through the Smart Tag only (fully dynamic) lanes. At faster speed there is no guarantee that the Smart Tag will be read correctly and that has caused some incidents in the past.

9. What happen if my Smart Tag fails to the boom?

If for some reason your Smart Tag malfunction in the lane fails to open the boom, the easily way to gain passage through the plaza is to provide an alternatively method of payment, such as cash or credit.

10. What can cause my Smart Tag to malfunction in the lanes?

Malfunction of the Smart Tag in the lanes can have various causes:

Hand held Smart Tag: one of the most common reasons for Smart Tag malfunctioning is road user not installing the smart tag to their windscreen but holding it up as they approach the toll plaza. The Smart Tag antenna requires that the Smart Tag is in a certain angle and will not work reliably and will inconvenience other smart tag user.

Malfunctioning of Smart Tag lane: we at Delhi Gurgaon Expressway do everything in our power to curb these incident to a minimum and have a team of capable technique availability to respond to such malfunctions speedy and efficiently.

11. Can I also use my Smart Tag on other toll roads?

At this point in time this TAG can be only used on the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway In future we expect that there would be interoperability agreements for the toll industry which ensure that our Smart Tag will be compatible with other electronic tolling systems in India when this technology is introduced along other routes.

15. How do I pay for my Smart Tag?

At this stage the only payment option available is pre –paid option under two plans.
Clients are required to charge their Smart Tag in POS offices on the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway.

16. Which cards can I use for the pre-paid option?

At the moment, Delhi Gurgaon Expressway accepts the following cards for Smart Tag Payment:
• All credit cards and debit cards.

Please note that certain cards attract transaction charges from the banks.

17. What discount is given by Delhi Gurgaon Expressway?

• Frequent user discounts

18. Are there any discounts available for Smart Tag Users?

One of the plans Smart Express plans have 50% discount on the private vehicles and commercial vehicles are entitled for 34% discount.

20. Can I pay by cash or credit card at the Plaza if I want to?

Only Cash.

21. Can I get a receipt in the lane when I use my Smart Tag?

No, you will have to stop collect the receipt which will negate the main advantage of the Smart Tag, the benefit of not stopping. Your toll usage will reflect on the fair display system on the right hand side on the TAG lane.
